Destroyer Of Man

Destroyer of Man
Selected Poems by Dominic Owen Mallary
Softcover / 80 p. / Poetry / $12.95
ISBN: 978-0-9844752-1-6

Dominic Mallary was the punk rock Renaissance man. A successful musician, artist, and poet; he remained true to a deeply ingrained DIY ethos up until his untimely death on stage in 2008 at the age of 24. Destroyer of Man is as much a product of Mallary’s uncompromising lifestyle as it is the manifestation of his life’s work.

A combination of poems published during Mallary’s lifetime alongside poems posthumously selected by friends, Destroyer of Man reveals a fiercely aware young poet writing from a place of anger and beauty with a lyrical virtuosity that is free from censorship. Drawing on a long and varied tradition, Mallary is equal parts Hart Crane and Rimbaud.

Arresting, raw, clever, and unexpectedly moving, these poems tear away at the world in a relentless pursuit for liberation from the ugly and mundane. Ultimately, Mallary finds that freedom not at the core of humanity, but in the ashes we leave behind.

wonderblog asked: Hey,
I was wondering if you could help me with something.
I'm giving a speech in one of my classes and i wanted to Quote Dom. In one of the last interviews he was able to give he said something along the lines of "...Hardcore without punk is just a genre of porn..." and than something else. I was wondering if you Had the link to that interview.

It would be incredibly appreciated.
-Julieta L.

“Hardcore without punk isn’t music, it’s a genre of porn. And punk isn’t a genre of music, it’s a thought process.”

Christmas Tradition

This Christmas, we celebrated in the usual manner; A Gentleman’s Christmas Retreat at various Chinese food restaurants around Clinton, followed by a mad dash to Classic’s Pub in Leominster. This year, the conversation was moving, the mai-tais were flowing, and the hearty guffaws of the Gentlemen could be heard bellowing from Clinton Gourmet.  Among the revelers was a rag tag group of the usual suspects, including a few new faces.

Hark! The clock strikes midnight and drinks are no longer served in Clinton!

And so, the young group of Gentlemen traveled to Classic’s to partake in the live band karaoke.  Dom and Kyle did a rousing rendition of “I Wanna Be Sedated,” and Erik and TK closed the night out with a version of “Zombie” that ultimately led to the forcible removal of the entire Gentlemanly crew.

Unsurprisingly, shortly thereafter a fellow Classic’s patron exhibited interest in taking the Gentleman’s Christmas to her place for Franzia and quesadillas.  So to the house we did venture where we fought and cursed and ended up ruining Christmas for everyone.

A Christmas miracle.  Can’t wait for next year.

HAUNTED LIKE A HOUSE - SLEEPER CELLS

Dominic Mallary’s final, and most beautiful musical endeavor will finally see the light of day.  Over the past 2 years many people have been asking where they can buy or download these songs.  Until now we never had an answer.  Instead of the lossy mp3 files that have been floating around, we can now offer you a finished product.  Mixed and mastered, carefully designed and directed by the some of Dom’s closest friends, this project is a final parting gift to him.  Digital downloads are available now at iTunes, Amazon and eMusic, and a limited edition 12” record will be available on December 7th.

100% of proceeds will be donated directly to the Worcester/Central Mass artist’s community that Dom loved and worked so hard to keep alive.

Knowing Dom, I know how much his music meant to him.  To release these songs to the world on his behalf is an honor.

RIP 1984-2008 DOM
